The ritual upgrade
Plastic toothbrushes take 400 years to decompose. This one won't.
Birdsong's bamboo toothbrush is made from sustainably harvested bamboo — a resource that grows back in months, not decades. The soft nylon bristles clean gently without stripping enamel. When you are done, remove the bristles and compost the rest.
How often should I replace my toothbrush?
▾
Every 3 months, or when the bristles begin to fray and splay outward — whichever comes first. A frayed toothbrush cleans significantly less effectively. Most people find the bamboo handle still looks good well past that point, but the bristles are the indicator.
Are the bristles biodegradable?
▾
The bristles are BPA-free soft nylon — they are not biodegradable. Before composting or burying the bamboo handle, use a small pair of pliers to pull the bristle tuft free. The bamboo handle itself is fully compostable and will break down naturally in soil.
Is it suitable for sensitive gums?
▾
Yes. The soft nylon bristles are gentle on gum tissue and enamel. If you have particularly sensitive gums, focus on applying very light pressure — the same technique applies whether you use bamboo or plastic. The bristle softness is the same as a standard soft toothbrush.
How do I dispose of it properly?
▾
Pull out the bristle tufts using pliers — they snap out cleanly. Once the bristles are removed, the bamboo handle can be composted, buried in your garden, or put in your organic waste bin. It will biodegrade fully. The bristles go into regular waste.
