The ancient practice
Breaking twigs of the Neem tree and cleaning the tongue first thing in the morning — our elders knew something we forgot.
Native to India and South Asia, Neem has been used in traditional medicine for centuries for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Our Neem Wood Tongue Cleaner gently removes bacteria, dead cells, and food debris from the surface of the tongue — all with the added benefits of this ancient tree. We source our neem wood from leftover timber used in furniture-making. Nothing wasted.
How do I use the tongue cleaner?
Wet your tongue with a little water. Stick your tongue out and place the curved edge of the cleaner on the back surface of the tongue. Scrape forward gently in one smooth motion. Rinse the cleaner and repeat 2 to 3 times. Use it first thing in the morning before eating or drinking — ideally right after oil pulling and before brushing.
Why use a tongue cleaner at all?
The tongue is the primary site for bacterial growth in the mouth. A buildup of bacteria on the tongue contributes to bad breath, a coated appearance, and a dulled sense of taste. Brushing alone does not remove this layer. A tongue cleaner takes 30 seconds and removes what your toothbrush cannot reach.
Why neem wood specifically?
Neem has documented antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties — it is not just the shape of the tool that cleans, but the material itself. Unlike stainless steel or plastic tongue cleaners, neem wood adds a gentle medicinal quality to each scrape. It has been the material of choice in Ayurvedic oral care for thousands of years.
How long does it last and how do I dispose of it?
With regular use and proper rinsing after each use, a neem wood tongue cleaner lasts several months. When it begins to show wear or discolouration, it is time to replace it. To dispose, simply place it in your compost bin or bury it in soil — it will biodegrade fully. No plastic, no waste.
